Obama Dog

I know I am a few days behind with this, but I've heard a lot about the Obama's new dog to-be.

Politico did a nice quick story on it.

The questions boils down to Purebred or Mutt in the Politico story. I think the question should be shelter v. breeder.

I have adopted two dogs from the SPCA; Fiona, a Shepherd-Lab mix, and Odin, a Norwegian Elkhound. Because of my experiences with the SPCA, I feel that the President-Elect should set a good example for the American people and try to adopt a dog, be it from rescue or shelter. It'll set a good example for the rest of the nation and rings true to Obama's egalitarian message. There are certain to be hypoallergenic breeds in rescues and shelters around the nation.

There are hundreds of dogs sitting in shelters waiting for adoption - no reason for a President-elect to spend several hundred or more dollars for a dog. It flies in the face of the message of sacrifice spoken by Obama the day he won the race for president.

If you're considering getting a pet, drop by the SPCA. Odin and Fiona give it two paws up.

Spread the Wealth Around!

For those of you who voted for our next President today, I have a favor to ask.

Spread the wealth around!

I am an unemployed law student. So, why not each send me a paltry $5?

It's time for change! Your spare change! Sent to me!

In the meantime, a quote from James Madison, the Father of our Constitution, who clarified the authority of the federal government in the Federalist Papers #45:

"The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State."

I think it would serve our leaders and electorate well to read the Constitution.
